A familiar face to many, Berk spent 20 years on television, including 14 in Baltimore. He holds a Meteorology degree from Cornell University and was recently named Best Meteorologist by the Baltimore Sun Readers Poll for the sixth straight year (and eighth overall). He’s also been honored three times by Baltimore Magazine.
In addition to his broadcast career, Berk spent a decade teaching at Stevenson University, and is a celebrated science communicator with over 400,000 social media followers and a popular website, justinweather.com, which averages one million page views per month.
Berk is also the founder of two school programs—Storm Smart and Faith in the Flakes—and a dedicated philanthropist. In 2014, he launched the Maryland Trek, a 329-mile hike/bike journey from Wisp Resort to Ocean City to raise funds for kids battling cancer. Over 12 years, the event has honored more than 80 children and raised over $1 million for Just In Power Kids, a nonprofit Berk cofounded. He serves as its President and Executive Director—all as an unpaid volunteer.
A proud father of two teenage boys, Berk said, “Snow is my obsession, and Garrett County is absolutely my favorite part of Maryland.”
A spokesperson noted that his selection as Grand Marshal is a fitting tribute to his passion for weather, education, and giving back.
